King Edward Headland Reserve (former Newcastle Bowling Club)

Stronach Property has been given development approval by Newcastle City Council to construct an architecturally designed function centre on part of the former Newcastle Bowling club site.  The remainder of the site will be developed as parkland and will also include a public kiosk. The development, which was approved by Council at its meeting on 8 November 2011, is subject to a number of stringent conditions.

Stronach had earlier been appointed as preferred proponent for this project following a public tender process.

The redevelopment of the former bowling club is in response to a community endorsed Plan of Management (PDF 2.13MB) for the site.

King Edward Headland Reserve has, for over 40 years, been the exclusive domain of Newcastle Bowling Club members and has therefore not been available for public use during that time. The development proposal will redress this situation by establishing a large, modern landscaped park (including kiosk) that will be available for public use and enjoyment consistent with the Plan of Management strategies.  The function centre will be a valuable addition to the tourism infrastructure of Newcastle and provide a magnificent coastal setting for weddings and other functions and conferences.

It is envisaged that construction will be completed during 2012.
