  • 75 km
  • Moderate/Hard

The first part of this track is on little-used public roads, then proceeds along tracks to the shores of Lake Burrrinjuck. From here, take a pre-booked boat through the Burrinjuck Waters State Park towards Wee Jasper, which is a few kilometres walk further after you disembark. Proceed through the Wee Jasper Nature Reserve, which climbs steeply to give beautiful views over the village and Lake Burrinjuck. You then descend to the western side of the ridge, cross the Wee Jasper Creek and continue to Fitzpatrick Trackhead.

  • 78 km

This section of the track starts with a 6 km climb to the summit of Mt. Wee Jasper in the Buccleuch State Forest, then continus along a foot track past Pompey's Pillar, following Micalong Creek along one of the most picturesque sections of the whole track. The track then incorporates forestry roads, bridges and boardwalks to cross swamp area at Chinaman's Creek before descending from the tableland to the Goobarragandra Valley and climbing again to reach the Thomas Boyd Trackhead. This popular part of the Track follows the Goobarragandra River, using two swing bridges to cross the river before heading through heavily timbered country into cleared grazing land. You then climb up several steep hills to have your first views of the Goobarragandra and Tumut River Valleys before making your way along the Snowy Mountains Highway, 10 kms from Tumut.

  • 102 km

The Track leads from the highway towards Blowering Dam, from where it follows the foreshores of the Blowering Reservoir for 35 kms, much along the edge of pine plantations and through extensive cleared area. When the track leaves the Reservoir, you climb over Gurkeroo Ridge, with great views of Talbingo Mountain. Crossing into the Kosciuszko National Park, you pass the spectacular Lower Buddong Falls, then walk through dense eucalypt forest to Paddys River Dam. From here, the next 15 km of track is easy walking near water, through magnificent forested country. You then leave the Bago State Forest and continue on to reach the Henry Angel Trackhead, nine kilometres from Tumbarumba.

  • 61 km
  • Easy/Moderate/Hard

The first part of this section is an easy and interesting day walk following Burra Creek, past vertical rock walls and tunnels created for gold and tin mining 100 years ago. Pass the Falls before leaving the creek to climb Big Hill to view the western face of the Snowy Mountains, then make your way down to Tumbarumba Creek and into Mannus State Forest. There's a long climb now to the top of the next ridge and then an equally long drop down the other side to Mannus Creek where a foot track follows the edge of Mannus Lake to a campsite. The next 25 km of walking track is in Mannus and Munderoo State Forests at elevations mostly between 500 and 750 metres. The track then runs along the crest of a ridge for several kilometres giving some of the most expansive views of the track. After crossing Coppabela Creek, the track then heads back up Lankeys Creek.

  • 48 km

From Lankeys Creek through to Albury, the track is in much drier, hotter country than the more elevated areas. It is therefore more exposed to bushfires and is closed from 1 December to 28 February each year and may be closed at other times if extreme fire conditions exist.

After leaving Lankeys Creek campsite, follow the Jingellic-Hollbrook road, then walk through a cleared hillside around the head of a large gully, into pine plantations leading into the Woomargama State Forest, with much fauna and flora to be seen. Beyond the Mandaring Trail intersection, you descend towards Tin Mines Campsite, then continue for an easy walk through bushlands before embarking on a steady climb to the top of Mount Jergyle. From here the track runs along the west ridge until it drops into the valley of Home Flat Creek and on to Tunnel Road.

Tunnel Road/Albury

(Refer Sections Map - Section 6)

  • 73 km
  • Easy/Moderate/Hard

The track between Tunnel Road and Wymah Road is closed from 1 December to 28 February each year because of fire risk and may be closed at other times if extreme fire conditions. From Tunnel Road, walk through 9 km of walking track in timbered country, mostly through the Woomargama State Forest. You then enter private property before coming onto Wymah Road and onto Fowlers Swamp Creek, which you cross by bridge to enter the Ten Chain Stock Reserve. Continue to the Hume Highway and cross the Hume Reservoir, through an area which is a mix of farmland, residential development and open space, arriving at the Riverina Highway, leading to the Mungabareena Reserve on the northern banks of the Murray River. A foot track leaves the reserve to climb to the top of Eastern Hill for an excellent view of the whole region, before walking the final two kilometres to the Hovell Tree and the southern end of the Hume & Hovell Walking Track.
