The former Newcastle Post Office is an iconic heritage building which has been identified as playing an important role in achieving the objectives of the Government’s future revitalisation plans for the City of Newcastle, particularly in relation to creating a more active and vibrant city centre. The building is a landmark site both physically and historically and has the potential to become a hub for the Newcastle CBD.
The NSW State Government through the NSW Land and Property Management Authority has purchased the historic former Newcastle Post Office and is committed to redeveloping the site. It is envisaged that ultimately the building will cater for uses that meet the requirements of the City of Newcastle whilst being commercially viable. It is also intended that any re-use plans for the building be focused on attracting more visitors to the inner city area.
