The NSW Government Office, Penrith is the headquarters for the Sydney Catchment Authority as well as providing offices for a number of other government agencies. The building includes a number of environmentally sustainable design initiatives including:

  • Solar roof panels generating up to 10 kilowatts of electricity equivalent to powering up to four homes or lighting one building floor
  • Individually controlled louvers to provide effective sun shading and reduce heat load.
  • A 'green roof' with 50% dedicated to landscaping and rooftop access.

The building has been designed to achieve a 4.5 star NABERS Energy and Water rating, and includes a number of other initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and water consumption, including:

  • High efficiency water fittings
  • Rainwater storage for non-potable uses such as irrigation and wash down.
  • Intelligent building control and plant monitoring systems
  • Energy efficient light fittings
  • State of the art, energy efficient air conditioning system

The NSW Government Office, Penrith won the Penrith City Council's 2009 Excellence in Design Award.
