Development of the Queanbeyan Government Service Centre, completed in July 2008 aimed to improve the delivery of government services in this regional community. Eleven government agencies have now been co-located into the one facility and a central Information and Reception Centre provides the public with access to a range of government services.

This one stop shop concept signals a new approach to government service delivery, designed to simplify the way the government does business with its customers.

The state of the art four storey complex includes many environmental initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and water consumption. It has been designed to achieve a 4.5 star NABERS Energy and Water rating, with features including:

  • High efficiency water fittings
  • Rainwater storage for non-potable uses such as irrigation and wash down.
  • Intelligent building control and plant monitoring systems
  • Energy efficient light fittings
  • State of the art, energy efficient air conditioning system

The building also includes a number of modern workplace initiatives to improve functionality and flexibility, including: h Open plan work spaces incorporating quiet spaces, meeting rooms and breakout zones to meet varying staff requirements Non-segmentation and partitioning of agencies to encourage interaction and use of shared facilities. shared computer rooms with backup power supply.

The Queanbeyan Government Service Centre has been awarded:

  • the John Andrews Award for Commercial Architecture 2009, from the ACT chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects
  • the Best Use of Steel Cladding 2008 from the Master Builders Association.
