Beneficial solar panel pilots completed
Pilot solar panels projects that could result in more energy-efficient government buildings have recently been completed.
The Authority aims to improve the environmental performance of its property portfolio through efficient water usage and renewable energy projects.
These projects are designed to deliver cost savings and cost benefits to office buildings.
Valuable information
Pilot solar panel projects were held at Dubbo Premier Centre Office Building, Wagga Government Office Building, Griffith Government Office Building and Orange Government Office Building.
These major regional government office buildings have provided valuable information about the usage of PV (photovoltaic) solar power in reducing energy consumption in government office accommodation.
Once the information is analysed, the Authority will be able to assess how the project has gone and whether PV solar power is an appropriate energy solution for other buildings.
Solar power and NABERS
Solar power and other energy efficiency measures will improve the NABERS ratings. NABERS energy is the performance benchmark for energy efficiency in the NSW Government Sustainability Policy.
Solar power does not generate greenhouse gas emissions and reduces the amount of electricity from the grid.
The pilot solar panels project commenced in January 2011.
