The NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Rating System) has been selected for the Office Building Strategy to benchmark environmental performance for office accommodation over 1,000m2.
NABERS rates the environmental performance of existing buildings on 1-5 star scale. A five star rating represents best practice environmental performance, while a one-star rating indicates below average performance and opportunities for improvement.
NABERS ratings for offices include energy, water, waste and the indoor environment. Currently, only targets for water and energy have been published. The scheme is administered by the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water.
The State Property Authority has established the NABERS Rating Procurement Program. This program establishes a panel of NABERS Accredited Assessors to undertake NABERS ratings for Government premises at a fixed rate.
