Public authorities must not use any pesticide in prescribed public places owned by or under their control from 1 February 2007, without first preparing, finalising and notifying the Environmental Protection Authority of a pesticide use notification plan. Prescribed public places are areas which the public is entitled to have access (whether or not on payment of a fee) and includes Crown reserves.
Pesticide use notification plans relating to prescribed public places under the ownership or control of a public authority must set out:
Public notice in accordance with the adopted pesticide use notification plan will be required to be given prior to the application of any pesticides to reserve land.
The Department of Lands has prepared a pesticides notification plan that applies to all Crown lands. Reserve trusts should use this as a guide in preparing notices of pesticide use for their reserves.
